Not all great employees become great leaders…
Jul 23, 2025
What it takes to be a great employee changes drastically when it comes to being a great leader.
If you were to call up a great employee in your mind right now, what qualities are you looking for? Reliability, good communication, teamwork, integrity, and a good work ethic might be some that come to mind..
And if we are to think about the qualities of a great leader? For me, it’s decision making, influence, collaboration, confidence, communication, delegation, and bigger picture thinking.
Great leadership requires us to deepen and expand on what it takes to be a great employee. It means putting your ego aside and listening to your team. It means delegating a task because you can’t carry it all on your shoulders. It means having hard conversations and understanding how to navigate them appropriately.
It takes something different, and many business owners don’t have the skills to support their leaders (especially if they are still working on it themselves). Our schooling system never taught us how to be a confident, strong, and empowered leader.
This is why we created The Embodied Leadership School. To be the place that owners know they can turn to, to take good leaders to great leaders. Becuase a leader isn’t defined by their title, but by how they show up.
Here are 4 questions you can use to see if your leader is embodying their fullest leadership capacity:
- Are you confident that your leader can have the hard conversations in your business? Do they have the communication skills necessary for this role?
- What does your leader's day look like? Are they able to tackle the big tasks while also managing the reactive parts of the business?
- Is your leader confident in delegating tasks to their team?
- Can your leader manage the higher workload, planning, and prioritisation that is needed for their role?
If you answered no to any of the above, then our signature program, The Leadership Accelerator, is for you. We take leaders from overwhelmed managers into high-performing leaders by activating their capacity, not just informing them.
